Currency:  Nuevo Sol

Climate :  A subtropical climate, with dense rainforests, and mild, warm and damp temperatures. Heaviest rainfall from November to March. Drier, hotter weather from April to October.

Culture:  This enigmatic fortress city, a pre-columbian ruin of 5 sq. miles, had remained virtually intact when discovered by Hiram Bingham in 1911. Machu Picchu was most likely a royal estate and religious retreat. About 1,200 people lived in and around. Most of them were women, children, and priests.
